Screw threads are extensively incorporated in the design of mechanical components to fasten or transmit power. Depending upon the applications, these threads differ in size, form, and quality. Thread production is of great importance for fitters because of the increasing demand for high-precision fastening devices and power transmission systems.
In this chapter, we will study threading, different methods for making threads, and various related aspects. So, let us start with the concept of threading.
Concept of Threading
Threading is the process of creating a screw thread in other words, threading may be defined as the process in which, the spiral grooves are cut on the internal or external surface of the cylinder which are continuous in shape and are at fix angle say a. It also has an equal increment in every revolution.
The thread has a specified width and depth, which bear some ratio to the diameter of the cylinder.
